Message from the Principal
Dear Smyrna and Prospective Families,
I welcome you to Smyrna Elementary School and our school website. I have worked in the field of education for over 20 years and served as a principal for more than 10 of those years. I hold certification in Elementary Education, Special Education, Reading Specialist, Educational Consultant, Principal, and Superintendent Administration.
I have been honored to serve as principal at Smyrna Elementary and look forward to continuing the work we are engaged in over the next several years. We work diligently to create a program that is personalized, caring, and high achieving.
Our school has a reputation for innovation, creativity, dedication, and excellence. We have a highly qualified and progressive teaching staff that is committed to providing our students with relevant and rigorous instruction. We work hard to reach each child academically as well as socially and emotionally.
Smyrna Elementary School has a very supportive and involved relationship with parents and the community. We believe that a strong partnership between our school, the community, each classroom, and home is critical to student and school success. We encourage and invite you to participate and volunteer in our school. Working together enhances the caring school environment that makes our school so special.
Smyrna Elementary is an outstanding environment. The focus for every child is academic, social, and emotional success. We encourage you to come visit our school, or to simply take a tour of our web page. You will see that Smyrna Elementary School truly is a great place to be!

Smyrna Celebrates Read Across America Week
Read Across America Week at Smyrna will be full of great activities and community involvement. On Monday, we celebrate beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Teachers will be dressed as storybook characters and will be reading Dr. Seuss books. Tuesday is Career Day. Volunteers from all over our local community will be coming to read and share about their careers with our students. We have a wide assortment of people from Firefighters to Restaurant/Food Service Managers to a Comic Book Artist and even the local 2020 Census Coordinator! Wednesday is Multicultural Day and we welcome people from all over the world to help us learn about their culture. Students will hear from members of the Kentucky Refugee Ministries, the JCPS ELL Department, and local minority business owners. Thursday is Mystery Reader Day. On that day, members of our students' families will surprise their children by coming to read to the class. Classes will be given three hints before the reader arrives. Will they solve the mystery? Finally, on Friday we are celebrating all forms of teamwork! Students are encouraged to wear clothes that represent teamwork. Wear your house shirt, a team uniform, Boy or Girl Scouts, or any other cooperative team uniform. Teachers will also be reading books with a teamwork theme. Join us by reading books on these themes at home too! It's going to be an awsome week!
